Libya’s parliament-designate government, led by Prime Minister Osama Hammad, has announced the launch of a plan to provide large quantities of essential food commodities and Ramadan-related goods across the country, alongside adequate supplies of imported meat.
In a statement issued on Friday, the government said the move aims to meet citizens’ needs during the holy month of Ramadan while limiting potential price increases in local markets. Officials stressed that the plan forms part of broader efforts to ease economic pressures on households during a period of traditionally high demand.
According to the statement, subsidised food commodities will be offered through approved distribution channels under the supervision of the Price Balance Fund. The government said this mechanism would help regulate distribution, prevent manipulation, and ensure that support reaches eligible beneficiaries in a transparent manner.
The government also confirmed that imported meat will be distributed through state-affiliated slaughterhouses and official sales points in cities and regions nationwide. It said the process would follow an organised framework designed to guarantee fairness, avoid supply shortages, and ensure stable availability throughout Ramadan.
In parallel, the parliament-designate government revealed that it is preparing to begin the distribution of animal feed in various categories. A specialised committee has been formed to oversee the process in coordination with relevant authorities and livestock breeders’ associations.
The initiative is intended to support the livestock sector, which has faced rising costs and supply challenges in recent years. By providing feed at regulated prices, the government hopes to reduce financial burdens on farmers and stabilise meat production in the domestic market.
Officials reiterated that the measures reflect the government’s commitment to social stability and economic balance, particularly during sensitive periods such as Ramadan. The statement concluded by emphasising that state institutions will continue monitoring markets closely to prevent price exploitation and ensure sufficient supplies for all Libyan citizens.
