Libya is preparing to host a landmark international security gathering as the city of Benghazi welcomes senior military leaders from across the Mediterranean Basin and Sub-Saharan Africa for a high-level strategic security conference scheduled to run from February 10 to 12.

The event marks the first conference of its kind to be held in Libya and will bring together chiefs of staff and senior commanders from 18 participating countries.

The conference is organized under the auspices of the Libyan National Army (LNA) General Command, led by Field Marshal Khaled Haftar, and reflects Libya’s growing engagement in regional security cooperation.

Libyan officials say the event represents a significant step toward strengthening collective security frameworks and addressing shared challenges that transcend national borders.

Held under the theme “Joint Cooperation to Combat Cross-Border Crime,” the conference will focus on a range of pressing security issues affecting the wider region.

These include irregular migration, transnational organized crime, human trafficking networks, arms smuggling, and the persistent threat posed by terrorist organizations operating across borders in North Africa, the Sahel, and the Mediterranean.

Senior military officials and security experts attending the conference are expected to exchange operational experiences, discuss intelligence coordination, and explore practical mechanisms for enhanced cooperation among armed forces. Organizers say the discussions aim to move beyond general dialogue toward concrete strategies that improve coordination and joint responses to regional security threats.
