Libyan engineer Mohamed Al-Maghrebi has won the silver medal and secured second place at a major international inventions exhibition hosted in Kuwait, drawing participation from more than 260 inventors representing over 50 countries worldwide.

The award was presented during an official ceremony recognizing outstanding scientific and technological achievements across multiple disciplines.

Al-Maghrebi earned the distinction for developing an innovative firefighting agent designed specifically for oil and petroleum facilities.

The compound, known as AFEP, is formulated using materials derived from natural hormonal sources and aims to enhance the effectiveness of firefighting operations in high-risk industrial environments.

The invention focuses on improving safety standards in oil installations while reducing environmental impact compared to traditional chemical suppressants.

Oil facility fires pose significant operational and environmental risks, particularly in energy-producing nations.

By introducing a compound that combines performance efficiency with environmentally conscious design, the project seeks to address both safety and sustainability concerns in one of the most critical sectors of the global economy.

Al-Maghrebi described the achievement as a pivotal moment in his professional career, emphasizing that international recognition reinforces his commitment to continued research and innovation.

He noted that representing Libya on a global scientific platform carries special significance and reflects the country’s capacity to contribute meaningful solutions in advanced technical fields.

The exhibition featured a wide range of innovations spanning engineering, environmental science, medicine, and industrial technology.

Libya’s success at the event highlights the growing presence of its researchers and engineers in international competitions and underscores the importance of supporting scientific advancement as a pathway toward strengthening industrial development and national expertise.
