The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Libyan House of Representatives, Yousef Al-Agouri, held a phone call with the Greek consul in Benghazi to discuss ways to strengthen relations between Libya and Greece.

The discussion focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and expanding coordination on issues of mutual interest between the two Mediterranean countries.

During the call, Al-Agouri emphasised the importance of the historic relationship between Libya and Greece. He stressed that the Libyan House of Representatives remains committed to supporting deeper cooperation across political, economic and cultural sectors to serve the shared interests of both nations.

The talks also addressed the need for closer coordination in confronting regional challenges affecting the Mediterranean region. Al-Agouri highlighted the importance of cooperation in light of ongoing political and security developments that continue to shape the wider Mediterranean environment.

According to officials, strengthening parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries was another key point discussed during the conversation. Al-Agouri noted that Libya’s parliament is keen to benefit from Greece’s democratic experience and institutional development, which could support Libya’s own political and legislative processes.

The conversation also touched on issues related to educational institutions serving foreign communities in Libya. Al-Agouri explained that the Foreign Affairs Committee is closely following the file of community schools due to their importance in supporting educational continuity and maintaining stability within foreign educational institutions operating in the country.

He stressed that the committee considers this issue a priority as part of broader efforts to support education and ensure the smooth functioning of schools servings expatriate communities in Libya.

Both sides concluded the call by underlining the importance of maintaining regular communication and diplomatic coordination. They agreed that continued dialogue would contribute to strengthening Libya–Greece relations and support broader efforts aimed at stability and development across the Mediterranean region.
