A shocking security incident at Gargour Medical Complex has raised serious concerns over the safety of healthcare workers after a suspect carried out two separate shooting attempts targeting nurses.

The attacks unfolded in the Libyan capital Tripoli, where what initially appeared to be an isolated incident quickly escalated into a repeated threat. According to the Stability Support Apparatus, the first attack involved a direct shooting at a nurse, leaving her injured before the suspect fled the scene.

Days later, the same individual reportedly returned to the medical facility and attempted a second attack. This time, he aimed his weapon at another nurse and fired multiple shots toward her head. However, a technical malfunction in the firearm prevented what could have been a fatal outcome.

Security forces launched an intensive investigation, tracking the suspect through coordinated efforts and gathering evidence to identify him. Authorities eventually confirmed the identity of the accused, identified by initials “R.N.Sh”.

The operation concluded with the suspect’s arrest following what officials described as a precise and controlled security intervention, effectively ending a period of scare and tension around the medical complex.

The suspect has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal proceedings, while security officials stressed that swift action prevented a potential third attack.

The incident has reignited debate over safety measures inside healthcare facilities in Libya, with growing calls to strengthen security protocols and protect medical staff from escalating threats.

Despite the arrest, the incidents have left a lasting impact on the local medical community, highlighting vulnerabilities in environments that are meant to provide care and safety.
