A high-level Libyan delegation has conducted its first official visit to Europol, marking a significant step in strengthening cooperation between Libya and the European Union in the fight against cross-border crime.

The visit, facilitated by EUBAM Libya, reflects growing efforts to connect Libyan law enforcement institutions with European security agencies. The engagement aims to enhance coordination in tackling transnational threats, including human trafficking, smuggling networks, and organised crime.

Strengthening Security Partnerships

During the visit, discussions focused on improving information-sharing mechanisms, capacity building, and joint strategies to combat cross-border criminal activities. The initiative highlights the increasing importance of international cooperation in addressing complex security challenges that extend beyond national borders.

EUBAM Libya played a central role in organising and supporting the visit, reinforcing its mandate to promote collaboration between Libya and the European Union in areas such as integrated border management and law enforcement coordination.

Expanding Cooperation Against Transnational Crime

The engagement comes as Libya continues to face challenges related to irregular migration and cross-border crime, often linked to wider regional instability. By strengthening ties with Europol, Libyan authorities aim to improve operational effectiveness and align with international best practices in security and policing.

The European Union has consistently supported Libya through technical assistance, training programmes, and advisory missions, with EUBAM Libya serving as a key platform for fostering institutional cooperation and enhancing border security frameworks.

This latest visit signals a renewed push toward deeper EU-Libya security cooperation, with both sides emphasising the importance of sustained engagement to counter evolving transnational threats and promote regional stability.
