The Student Union at University of Tripoli Student Union has strongly opposed military exercises involving live ammunition and the presence of heavy vehicles داخل the university campus, warning that such actions pose serious risks to safety and violate the sanctity of academic institutions.
In an official statement, the union condemned what it described as a “blatant violation” of the university’s neutrality, stressing that the campus must remain a secure environment dedicated exclusively to education and academic activity.
The statement highlighted growing concerns among students and faculty members, noting that the use of live ammunition within a university setting represents a direct threat to lives and undermines the integrity of higher education institutions in Libya.
The union called for the immediate withdrawal of all armed formations from the campus, urging authorities to prevent any military or political use of university grounds. It emphasized that students should not be exposed to conflict-related risks or drawn into disputes unrelated to their education.
The group further held responsible parties accountable for any potential consequences, reiterating the urgent need to protect educational institutions across the country and preserve their independence from ongoing political and security tensions.
The incident comes amid broader concerns over security conditions in Tripoli, where sporadic instability has at times affected civilian spaces. Student representatives and academic voices continue to call for stronger safeguards to ensure universities remain safe zones for learning, free from militarization.
