Libya’s National Oil Corporation has rejected claims circulating on social media regarding a fuel shipment allegedly failing to meet specifications, confirming that all tests show full compliance with national standards.

In an official statement, the corporation said the disputed shipment of petrol underwent extensive additional testing at the Oil Research Centre laboratories. Results confirmed that the fuel fully complies with approved Libyan specifications.

The NOC added that findings were consistent with inspections carried out by Saybolt, an independent international inspector appointed jointly by the corporation and the supplier before the shipment arrived in Libya.

Further confirmation came from a global inspection and services company, which issued a quality certificate verifying the integrity of the fuel. According to the NOC, the shipment was evaluated by four separate technical bodies, including international and local inspectors, as well as specialised laboratories.

“All reports confirmed that the petrol cargo meets required standards and is free from contaminants that could affect quality,” the statement said.

The corporation stressed its commitment to ensuring fuel supply meets the highest safety and quality standards, in order to protect consumers and maintain stability in the domestic market.

The clarification comes amid growing public scrutiny over fuel imports, as misinformation continues to circulate online regarding product quality.

Libya relies heavily on fuel imports to meet domestic demand, making quality control a critical issue for both consumers and authorities.

The NOC also urged citizens and media outlets to verify information through official sources and avoid spreading unverified claims.

In a move aimed at strengthening transparency, the corporation said it will publish all relevant technical reports and certificates related to the shipment, highlighting efforts by both the NOC and Brega Company to secure safe and compliant fuel supplies.
