Benghazi is preparing to host the Libya International Travel and Tourism Expo in the coming period, in a major economic and tourism event aimed at strengthening Libya’s position in the regional and global tourism market, according to the Libyan News Agency (LANA).

The exhibition will take place at Expo Libya and is expected to bring together travel agencies, airlines, and tourism service providers from Libya and abroad. The event is designed as a professional platform to enhance cooperation, attract investment, and promote Libya as an emerging tourism destination.

The expo is being organised through joint efforts between the Benghazi Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and the General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences. This initiative forms part of broader efforts to support the national economy and revitalise the tourism sector.

Fouad Al-Awam, director of the regional office of the Arab Union for International Exhibitions, said the event would serve as a specialised platform linking local companies with international counterparts. He noted that it would facilitate knowledge exchange, partnership agreements, and showcase investment opportunities in the travel and tourism sector.

Al-Awam highlighted Libya’s significant tourism potential, including its long Mediterranean coastline, vast desert landscapes, and globally recognised archaeological sites. He said the current phase presents an opportunity to reposition Libya as a competitive destination at both regional and international levels.

The exhibition will cover multiple sectors, including land transport, logistics services, medical and educational tourism, as well as pilgrimage travel services. It will also highlight investment prospects across the tourism industry.

The event targets local and international travel companies, regional and global airlines, and business service providers, aiming to enhance integration across the sector.

It will also focus on training programmes, workforce development, and the promotion of environmental, social and economic sustainability standards in line with modern tourism development practices.

Wide international participation is expected, including companies from Turkey, Tunisia, Egypt, Italy, Malta and Greece, alongside local exhibitors. The programme will feature opening sessions, specialised seminars and panel discussions on the future of Libya’s tourism sector.
