Khaled Al-Zaidi, the lawyer of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, has called for the removal of Interior Minister Emad Al-Trabelsi if he fails to implement the Attorney General’s order to arrest and bring in suspects linked to the assassination case involving his client.
In a video statement that sparked wide debate, Al-Zaidi said the execution of arrest warrants is not an administrative choice, but a binding legal duty. He stressed that claims that some suspects are protected by armed forces or militia groups do not exempt security agencies from their responsibilities.
Al-Zaidi added that the law requires action against anyone who protects perpetrators or helps conceal them from justice. He said obstructing judicial orders or shielding wanted individuals amounts to a separate crime.
He warned that any official who refuses to implement arrest warrants without a clear legal justification could face criminal responsibility. He added that this responsibility may reach the level of dismissal from office if political intent or direct interests are proven to be behind the obstruction of Public Prosecution decisions.
Al-Zaidi also said the rights of victims and their families are firmly protected under international law. These rights include knowing what happened, how it happened, and who was responsible.
He stressed that justice cannot be achieved unless judicial decisions are carried out without selectivity, delay, or obstruction.
The remarks come amid continued debate in Libya over accountability, the rule of law, and the ability of state institutions to enforce judicial decisions in a divided security landscape.
