Libya Restores Fuel Supply Operations in Al Zawiya After Security Unrest

Brega Petroleum Marketing Company announced the resumption of operations at the Al Zawiya oil depot after armed clashes and security tensions disrupted activity in the city over the past two days.

In a statement released on Saturday, the company confirmed that fuel supply operations resumed early in the morning, with the depot once again providing petroleum products to distribution companies to maintain fuel availability across local markets.

The restart of operations follows violent clashes that erupted in Al Zawiya on Friday after local security authorities launched an operation targeting individuals described as wanted suspects and armed outlaws. The confrontations spread across several areas of the city and caused damage to nearby facilities and infrastructure.

According to reports, the clashes resulted in material damage to buildings, offices, and vehicles belonging to the Zawiya Oil Refining Company. The violence also forced a temporary shutdown of refinery operations due to safety concerns for workers and surrounding facilities.

Critical energy infrastructure was also affected during the unrest. Officials reported that an aviation kerosene storage tank operated by Brega Petroleum Marketing Company was struck by two projectiles, raising concerns over the exposure of strategic oil facilities to security instability.

The incident once again highlights the vulnerability of Libya’s energy infrastructure to recurring security tensions and armed confrontations. Analysts warn that repeated disruptions affecting oil facilities could place additional pressure on domestic fuel supplies and further complicate the country’s economic situation.
