Libya’s Parliament Speaker Ageela Saleh reaffirmed the strength of relations between Libya and Egypt, describing Cairo as a longstanding supporter of the Libyan people and a key partner during periods of crisis and instability.

Saleh made the remarks during a speech delivered before the Egyptian House of Representatives in Cairo during a session chaired by Hisham Badawi. The session focused on enhancing Libyan-Egyptian relations and strengthening parliamentary and political coordination between the two countries.

The Libyan parliament speaker said the House of Representatives highly values Egypt’s continued support for Libya, expressing appreciation for the role played by the Egyptian parliament in reinforcing communication and cooperation between the two legislative institutions.

Saleh stressed that relations between Libya and Egypt are deeply rooted and based on shared history, geography and longstanding social ties between the two neighbouring nations.

He added that Egypt occupies a special position among Arab countries due to its historic regional role and support for Arab populations during difficult times.

According to Saleh, Egypt has consistently welcomed migrants, students and people seeking safety from conflict across the region, describing the country as a refuge for many Arabs during times of instability.

The Libyan official also said ties between Libyans and Egyptians go beyond traditional diplomatic relations, noting that the relationship is built on common language, kinship, neighbourly relations and cultural connections extending back generations.

Saleh emphasised that Libyans would not forget Egypt’s support throughout various political and security crises, adding that the relationship between the two countries has remained stable despite regional challenges.

Egypt has played a major role in Libya’s political and security file over recent years, maintaining close communication with eastern Libyan authorities and supporting efforts aimed at restoring stability and rebuilding state institutions.

The visit comes amid ongoing coordination between Cairo and eastern Libyan officials on political, economic and reconstruction issues.
