The eastern-based Libyan government has reaffirmed its categorical rejection of any initiatives, arrangements, or policies aimed at resettling irregular migrants, asylum seekers, or foreign nationals within Libyan territory, describing the issue as a matter of national sovereignty that cannot be compromised.
In an official statement, the government stressed that Libya will not accept any direct or indirect attempts to transform the country into a destination for migrant resettlement or permanent settlement under any framework or designation. Officials emphasized that managing migration and regulating the presence of foreign nationals remain exclusive responsibilities of the Libyan state.
The government announced a series of measures designed to strengthen efforts to combat irregular migration and reinforce border security. These include directing all security and military institutions to fully implement existing laws, intensifying coordination between security and intelligence agencies, and expanding operations targeting human smuggling networks across the country.
Authorities also pledged to increase inspections, conduct comprehensive reviews of the legal status of foreign nationals residing in Libya, and take strict legal action against individuals or groups found to be facilitating the entry, movement, or sheltering of undocumented migrants.
The statement emphasized that combating irregular migration and preventing any form of migrant settlement represent strategic national priorities. Officials warned that any activities contributing to the settlement of foreigners in Libya would face firm legal and administrative measures.
The government also called on international organizations and foreign missions operating in Libya, including agencies dealing with migration and refugee issues, to fully respect Libyan sovereignty and comply with national laws and regulations. It stressed that international bodies must operate strictly within their authorized mandates and avoid any actions that could be interpreted as interference in domestic affairs.
In addition, authorities confirmed their commitment to implementing policies related to displaced persons arriving from neighboring countries while ensuring that all procedures remain consistent with Libya’s security interests and legal framework.
The government concluded by reiterating that protecting national borders, preserving demographic balance, safeguarding national identity, and maintaining state sovereignty are fundamental principles. It pledged to continue taking all necessary measures to enforce the law, address migration-related challenges, and strengthen national security amid increasing regional pressures.
