A young man was killed and another seriously injured after armed men opened fire on them early Sunday near Al-Sharjah Hall on Bir Al-Ghanam Road, south of Al-Zawiya, in western Libya.

Local reports said the victim, identified as Ibrahim Al-Shaallali, died after being shot by unidentified gunmen. His companion, Omar Shladi, sustained serious injuries and was transferred for medical treatment.

The attack took place at dawn in an area south of Al-Zawiya, a city that has witnessed repeated security incidents and armed violence in recent months.

The gunmen fled the scene immediately after the shooting. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the motive behind the incident remains unclear.

The latest shooting adds to growing concerns over public security in Al-Zawiya and surrounding areas, where armed groups and criminal networks have been blamed for repeated violence, road incidents, and attacks on civilians.

Authorities have not yet issued a detailed statement on the incident.
