On Wednesday, the Acting Head of the United Mission Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Williams, said that the situation in Libya remained fragile and dangerous. She described the country as being plagued by declining standards of living.

During her closing remarks at the second round meeting of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), Williams said Libya still suffers from a lack of basic services, economic deterioration, a severe banking crisis, and divisions in sovereign and financial institutions.

She explained that all these crises were negatively affecting the average Libyan directly, a record number of whom are now in need of humanitarian assistance.

The LPDF participants continued discussions and provided suggestions on selection modalities for the unified executive authority. This is in order to implement the preparatory period that would lead to national elections on 24 December, 2021.

Williams informed participants that UNSMIL would provide a working solution that would ensure transparency and confidentiality.
