The Director of the Moral Guidance Department of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Brigadier General Khaled al-Mahjoub, said that the LNA had dealt a devastating blow to terrorist groups in the desert of the southern region.
Al-Mahjoub stated that the LNA forces have worked for some time to collect information and locate Al-Qaeda elements in the southern desert. Then, the LNA forces carried out a successful, accurate, and sudden operation with which they were able to achieve control over that vast area.
He revealed that there is a person named Hassan al-Washi who plays the role of logistical support for al-Qaeda in the south of the desert. The Al-Qaeda terrorists were arrested and transported by military plane to Benghazi so as to refer them to the relevant authorities for investigation.
The LNA spokesman, General Ahmed al-Mismari, said that the Tariq bin Ziyad Brigade and the 116th Infantry Brigade carried out a qualitative operation in the Ubari area of Al-Tarqin and Al-Sharb neighbourhoods, in the southwest of the country.
Al-Mismari added that the forces targeted one of the hideouts that al-Qaeda uses to operate in Morocco. He added that 7 terrorists of different nationalities were arrested, including the commander Hassan al-Washi.
Al-Washi returned from Mali during the past week, after transporting weapons, ammunition, and money to al-Qaeda’s wing there, according to al-Mismari.
The LNA spokesman explained that the forces confiscated large quantities of ammunition, weapons, and dangerous documents. He pointed out that this operation comes within the framework of security operations aimed at pursuing and eliminating Takfiri terrorist cells and enforcing the law in the region.
