GNA Discusses Cooperation with Turkish Interior Ministry

On Wednesday, the Interior Minister of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), Fathi Bashagha, met with the Turkish ambassador to Libya, Serhat Aksen. They discussed security cooperation between the Libyan and Turkish Ministries of Interior.

The meeting focused on a number of issues related to training programs for security cadres, developing the GNA Ministry of Interior’s security capabilities, and benefiting from Turkish expertise in this field.

In November 2019, the GNA signed a security cooperation agreement to demarcate the maritime borders between Libya and Turkey. Since then, Ankara has continued to train elements of the GNA, and provide it with military support.

The GNA’s Defence Minister, Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush threatened to withdraw from the Libyan ceasefire agreement signed on 23 October with the Libyan National Army (LNA). “We warn the UN and the countries supporting peace and dialogue in Libya that we will withdraw from the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) and also withdraw from the ceasefire, if the LNA forces undertake any military action,” Al-Namroush said in a statement.
