High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell stressed the importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement, respect for the arms embargo, and the withdrawal of all foreign mercenaries from Libya. He described the ongoing foreign military intervention in Libya as unacceptable.

Borrell said that the European Union welcomed the agreement by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) on a unified transitional executive authority for the country. He emphasized the need to accelerate the formation of a new comprehensive government, to work towards national reconciliation and the unification of the country.

Borrell called on all Libyan parties and members of the international community to support the newly formed government. He warned that potential obstacles to the work of the new authority, would be subjected to sanctions. He expressed the EU’s readiness to support the government in implementing its priorities related to elections and the constitutional base, implementation of the ceasefire agreement, and the unification of institutions starting with financial institutions.
