On Thursday, Interior Minister of Libya’s eastern-based government, Ibrahim Bushnaf ordered the formation of joint forces to secure Sirte. This comes ahead of the Libyan Parliament’s vote of confidence session for the National Unity Government (NUG).

In a letter addressing the General Administration of Central Support, and the General Department of Criminal Investigation, Bushnaf ordered them to form a joint force tasked with securing the parliament’s crucial session set to be held in Sirte on 8 March.

Notably, Libya’s 5+5 Joint Military Committee (JMC) confirmed on Sunday that Sirte was ready to host the parliamentary session. The JMC’s final remarks came in response to the request of Parliament Speaker, Ageela Saleh to determine the potential of holding the session in Sirte.

Head of the acting municipal council of Sirte, Salem Amer renewed his welcome to the MPs stressing that the municipality is fully prepared to host the vote session.

Last week, Prime Minister-designate Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba said he faced a Friday deadline to form his government according to a UN road map.
