On Saturday, the US Embassy to Libya announced that it would provide $6 million in additional humanitarian aid to Libya in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, the Embassy added that the funds will help health officials to prevent the spread of the disease and to respond to the needs of those who have contracted or who are most at risk of contracting the virus.

It added that the U.S. has a long history of supporting investments in Libya’s health sector and overall development, implemented primarily through USAID.

According to the Embassy’s statement, the U.S. has invested more than $715 million in total aid for Libya over the past 20 years.

Since 2009, the U.S. has funded more than $100 billion in health assistance and nearly $70 billion in humanitarian assistance globally.
