The Libyan Ambassador to the United States of America (US), Wafa Bugaqis, discussed the latest developments in Libya’s progress with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Deputy Assistant Director, Megan Dorty.

Both sides stressed the need for more technical assistance for the preparations of the upcoming elections, scheduled to be held in December 2021. They also reviewed solutions to combat the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the development of the electricity network.

Bugaqis also discussed the importance of the US’ continued positive role in Libya, with the member of the Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health Policies in the Foreign Affairs Committee. She asked for the US’ support to the Government of National Unity (GNU), working together to achieve the sovereignty of Libya.

In February, Abdel Hamid Dbaiba was appointed the Libyan Interim Prime Minister. He will lead the country for a transitional period until holding the general elections scheduled for December 2021.
