Libyan MP “Why is the New Libyan Government Carrying Out Foreign Visits?”

Libyan MP Abdel-Salam Nassia, stressed the importance of the separation of duties between the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity (GNU). He noted that the tasks of the Presidential Council are to carry out foreign visits, and not part of the work of the Government of National Unity (GNU).

During a televised interview the MP added that the duties of the Prime Minister require him to make internal visits only, to find out about citizens’ needs and solutions for them.

Nassia’s statement comes in conjunction with a Gulf tour that Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba is currently on to Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.

On Wednesday, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed received Dbaiba at the Al-Hosn Palace. Dbaiba also met with the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Sabah at the Al-Bayan Palace.

Dbaiba has been elected as the Interim Prime Minister, while Mohamed Al-Mnifi as President. The transitional government is set to lead the country until elections scheduled on 24 December 2021.
