On Tuesday, the European Union reiterated its support for the Libyan government in its call for the withdrawal of mercenaries from its territory.
A European diplomat told Al-Arabiya’s correspondent in Brussels that European Defence Ministers are due to discuss on Thursday the issue of mercenaries, and the resumption of training for the Libyan Coast Guard. He also added that the ministers would discuss Turkey’s obstruction of cooperation between the EU’s Operation IRINI and the NATO fleet in the Mediterranean.
On Monday, Libya’s Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Mangoush called on Turkey to take steps to implement the Berlin Conference outcomes on Libya, as well as the relevant Security Council resolutions. In a joint press conference with her Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu she also called on Turkey to cooperate in ending the presence of all foreign forces and mercenaries in the country.
On Sunday, European Council President Charles Michel urged all mercenaries and foreign military personnel to leave quickly Libya, as part of the October ceasefire agreement.
