Tobruk Residents Condemn Attack against Presidential Council in Tripoli

On Sunday evening, dozens of Tobruk residents condemned the armed attack against the headquarters of the Presidential Council in Tripoli.

In a statement, they said, “We, the people of the city of Tobruk with all its tribal segments, deplore the attack that took place on Friday evening against the headquarters of the Presidential Council in Tripoli, especially since Libyans are waiting for an end to the divisions and begin the reunification of their nation.”

“Such actions negatively affect national reconciliation efforts and will widen divisions among Libyans. Therefore, we ask every patriot to seriously stand against these disgraceful acts that harm Libya at home and abroad,” they added.

“We will never allow any harm come to the Head of Libya’s Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Najla Al-Mangoush, and other ministers at the Government of National Unity (GNU). Attacking them is considered an assault on all Libyans,” the statement noted.

They also called on all cities, civil society organisations, and tribes to reject the attack and maintain the country’s national unity.

Unverified images on social media showed armed, uniformed men protesting at the entrance to the Corinthia Hotel in the heart of the city.
