Chairman of the Defense and National Security Committee at the Libyan Parliament, Talal Al-Mihoub confirmed on Tuesday, that those obstructing the work of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) are the militias that control western Libya.

In press statements to the Russian Sputnik news agency, Al-Mihoub added that political Islamist groups control these militias and are obstructing any progress of the JMC. He pointed out that these groups will not allow the opening of the coastal road or the implementation of any of the agreed outputs, in light of Turkey’s presence inside Libya. This is in reference to the High State Council (HSC) and the Justice and Construction Party, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The MP claimed that Turkey would not allow general elections to take place at the end of this year, and that it sought to stay on the ground and negotiate in the name of Libya.

The Muslim Brotherhood launched a fierce campaign against Libya’s Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Mangoush after her statements calling for the departure of all foreign forces and mercenaries, including Turkish ones, from Libya.
