On Friday, the UN Special Envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis and Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar discussed during a telephone call the preparations of the Second Berlin Conference on Libya, which be held on 23 June.

On Friday, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said in a statement that Kubis continued his engagements with national and international stakeholders to mobilize further support for the “multi-track UN-facilitated, Libyan-led, and Libyan-owned political process.”

Kubis held a series of telephone calls with several Libyan interlocutors including Prime Minister, Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba. He emphasized the importance of holding inclusive Presidential and Parliamentary elections on 24 December 2021, and beginning the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya.

German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas and United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres have invited several states and regional organisations to the Second Berlin Conference on Libya

The German Foreign Ministry has said that this will be the first time that Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU) is represented at such an event.
