On Saturday, the Libyan General Administration of Border Security announced that the military units in Murzuq area closed the Al-Toum border crossing with Niger and arrested a number of illegal immigrants.
In a statement, the administration indicated that this step implements the General Command’s decision to close all land borders to address the threat posed by coronavirus.
On his part, the commander of the military zone, Brigadier General Mohamed Sharif, inspected the closing of the Libyan border crossing with Niger, adding that they will prevent any attempt to violate Libya’s sovereignty.
It is noteworthy that the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Libya announced on Saturday the recording of six new cases of coronavirus, raising the number of confirmed cases to 17, including one death.
Dozens of people in Libya are being tested daily, in an attempt to monitor and prevent the spread of the COVID-19. The Libyan Interim Government has taken a series of stringent precautionary measures, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country, notably the imposition of countrywide curfews and the closure of its borders.
