The Head of Libyas’ Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi stressed the importance of Italy as a strategic partner for Libya. He thanked them for the warm welcome he received from the Italian President, and the Prime Minister during his recent visit to Rome.

In a tweet, Al-Mnifi stated that they dealt with a number of issues of common concern, including the Berlin II Conference. Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, received Al-Mnifi on Tuesday, at the historic Quirinal Palace in Rome. The flag of Libya was raised over the palace, the first time in ten years.

On Wednesday, the Berlin II Conference on Libya reiterated the call for the immediate, “withdrawal of foreign mercenaries from Libya,” according to the Italian news agency, Nova.

The Conference also called for the Libyan authorities to do their part to make the December elections possible; unify the Central Bank of Libya (CBL); and ensure an equitable distribution of oil revenues. These were the main points of the final declaration adopted by the conference members.

The 58-point document is divided into six sections Introduction, Political Process, Security, Economic and Financial Reforms, Compliance with International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, and the Follow Up.
