On Tuesday, the Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas, Mohamed Aoun, received Tamer Mostafa, the Egyptian Ambassador to Libya and his accompanying delegation in Tripoli. They discussed ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation, with Aoun praising the depth of the existing Libyan-Egyptian relations.

The Minister welcomed the appointment of Mostafa as the new Egyptian Ambassador to Libya, hoping that the Egyptian Embassy in Libya would play a pivotal role in strengthening economic and political relations between the two brotherly countries.

In turn, the Egyptian Ambassador affirmed Cairo’s support for efforts to restore Libya’s oil industry, “within the framework of permanent cooperation between the two countries”
He expressed the readiness of the Egyptian petroleum sector to contribute effectively in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of oil and gas infrastructure in Libya.

Libya has been marred in violence and political instability since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi’s government in 2011. The oil sector, the country’s main source of income, has suffered tremendously due to repeated attacks on oil fields and ports.
