UNHCR: 5 Migrants Drown Off Libya’s Coast

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) declared on Thursday that at least five migrants had drowned off the coast of Libya while trying to reach Europe.

According to the UNHCR office in Libya, 51 refugees and migrants were rescued and returned to Tripoli.

The office added that the UNHCR and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) had provided water, medical assistance, hygiene items and blankets to the migrants. The office stressed that Libya was not a safe port for the refugees.
