HoR Forms Committees To Study Ageela Saleh’s Political Initiative

The Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) announced the formation of two committees, the first of which is to study the initiative presented by the Speaker, Ageela Saleh, to solve the current crisis. The second committee is tasked with undertaking discussions with all parties, for the development of suitable solutions.

On the 30th of April, Saleh announced an eight-point initiative to end the current crisis, based on the restructuring of the current implementation of the Libyan Political Agreement (Skhirat Agreement), and the re-selection of its members based on the three historical regions (Barqa, Tripolitania, and Fezzan), in addition to rewriting the constitution. The HoR would remain until a new legislative body is elected to replace it.

Saleh met with a number of professors from the universities of Benghazi, Omar Al-Mukhtar and Tobruk, and from the Council of Experts, Democratic Society Bloc, Federal Bloc, and the Planning Council, to discuss the political initiative.

The Head of the Presidential Council for the Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj, indirectly referred to Saleh’s initiative, by calling for an “agreement on a comprehensive road map and a political path that brings all Libyans together, whether by amending the political agreement and forming a presidential council composed of a president, two deputies, and a separate head of government”, or the “Agreement on a constitutional path and general elections as soon as possible”.
