Turkish FM: Turkey’s Military Intervention Has Halted Haftar’s Advance

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu claimed that the scales have shifted in the conflict between the Libyan National Army(LNA) and the Government of National Accord (GNA).

During an interview on Tuesday, Çavuşoğlu said that “the best and only solution [in Libya] is a political solution, a militarily settlement could not be reached. Had we not changed the balance of the war, the LNA would have entered Tripoli and the conflict could have continued for another 10 years.”

It should be noted that the LNA has entered Tripoli and is stationed in Salah Al-Din, Al-Hadaba, Airport Road, Ain Zara, Wadi al-Rabi, and on the outskirts of Garabulli.

Çavuşoğlu claimed that “France’s support for Haftar has become clear, as well as the UAE and Egypt providing the strongest support. The Russian Wagner Company is also present in Libya to support Haftar. Every country is seeking to advance their interests.”

The Turkish foreign minister also discussed the joint statement issued by France, Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, and the United Arab Emirates that condemned Turkey’s intervention in Libya and Ankara’s actions in the wider Mediterranean.

He rejected this condemnation and said Turkey would continue to stand by the GNA, which he described as the “legitimate Libyan government”.

Çavuşoğlu concluded by saying that “the whole world sees that, thanks to Turkey, the scales have changed in Libya, and we are on the side of truth and legitimacy.”
