On Thursday, Tunisia reaffirmed its support for a peaceful and consensual solution to the Libyan crisis during the third meeting of the ‘International Follow-up Committee on Libya’. Mohamed Ben Youssef, the Head of Arab and Islamic Affairs at the Tunisian Foreign Ministry, stressed the need to reach a comprehensive ceasefire agreement.

Ben Youssef stated that a lasting ceasefire agreement would pave the way for the resumption of the political talks. “Tunisia is convinced that only Libyan stakeholders can resolve the conflict,” he added. He also urged states and international organisations to support Libya during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting was chaired by Italy, with eighteen delegates from concerned countries, as well as regional and international organizations. The Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Acting SRSG Stephanie Williams, co-chaired the meeting.

Tunisia participated in the first and second Follow-up Committee to the Berlin Conference meetings, but did not attend the Berlin Conference itself.
