On Monday, the French Ambassador to Libya, Mostafa Mihraje held a meeting with the Chairman of Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh to discuss ways to expedite the holding of Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Mihraje described the talks as “constructive exchanges”, reiterating his support for the electoral commission to hold free and transparent elections in the country.

He also affirmed his support for the efforts of the UN Envoy, and the Libyan Presidential Council in finding solutions that would lead the country to stability and elections. He confirmed that France “supports all solutions that come with a comprehensive agreement in which all parties participate.”

Days ago, Mihraje, said that Paris will play a positive role in reaching an agreement to stabilise Libya. The agreement aims to pave the way for holding elections according to a constitutional basis, the results of which are approved by all political parties.

This came during his meeting with the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi. The statement added that the French diplomat praised the role played by the Presidential Council in ending the current crisis.

Notably, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Libyan Parliament, Youssef Al-Agouri recently encouraged Mihraje to open a consulate in Benghazi, eastern Libya.

During their meeting in Benghazi, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation, joint coordination, and recent political developments.

Mihraje also met with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) in Al-Rajma.

The meeting dealt with the situation in Libya and developments in the country. It was also attended by the military attaché at the French Embassy in Libya.
