The Russian State Duma on Wednesday, denied the reports by US Africa Command (AFRICOM), that it has sent warplanes to Libya.

The allegation that Russia supplied fighterjets to Libya “does not correspond to reality,” said Andrey Krasov, the acting chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee.

“Russia’s position is well known: we are in favor of ending the bloodshed in Libya, we urge all parties to the conflict to refrain from using weapons, and return to the negotiating table,” Krasov included.

AFRICOM claimed that Russia had recently deployed military aircraft to Libya to support Khalifa Haftar’s, Libyan National Army. It pointed out that the Russian aircraft were likely to provide air support, and higher offensive capabilities in the civil war.
