On Saturday, the Libyan National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 12 new coronavirus cases in Sebha city, bringing the total number of cases to 130.

In its statement, the NCDC said that it had received 322 suspected samples, 12 of which have tested positive to the deadly virus in Sebha.

The NCDC noted that all of the new cases are persons who had been in contact with infected cases from Sebha.

It pointed out that nine patients have successfully recovered, raising the total of recoveries to 50.

The city of Sebha, in southern Libya, has recorded a spike in the number of infections in the past days.

The mayor of Sebha municipality, Al-Shawish Ghorbal, warned on Friday of a significant increase in infections.

Libya currently has 33 active cases under medical observation, 50 successful recoveries and 5 deaths.

Several Arab countries have tightened restrictions on movement and travel with the aim of curbing the spread of the virus.

Trillions of dollars have been pledged in economic stimulus packages around the world to reduce the economic repercussions of the crisis.
