Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar arrived at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Monday upon an official invitation from French President Emanuel Macron. The two men discussed latest developments in Libya, counter-terrorism efforts and illegal migration.

Upon his arrival, Haftar was greeted by an official reception ceremony attended by the French President, the Ministers of Defense and Interior and the Chief of Staff of the French Army.

During the meeting, the French President praised the pivotal role played by the Libyan National Army (LNA) in fighting terrorism. Macron underscored France’s full support for the LNA and its missions to achieve stability in Libya.

Libya has been suffering from a state of violence and political instability since the fall of Gaddafi in 2011. The North African nation has been struggling to make a democratic transition amid insecurity and unrest.
