On Monday, the Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas, Mohamed Aoun and the Chairman of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC), Farhat Bengdara issued a decision to reshuffle the Brega Oil Marketing Company’s Board of Directors.

According to the decision, Fouad Ali Belrahim will be appointed as the new Head of the Company’s Board. Members will consist of Faraj Al-Jaidi, Mustafa Aoun, Milad Al-Hejrasy, and Abdul-Rahman Abdul-Salam.

On its part, the Brega Oil Marketing Company Workers Union welcomed the move.

Earlier this month, the NOC announced the resumption of natural gas production from Brega to Al-Khums, with a capacity of 100 million cubic feet per day, after a 12-year halt.

the company “appreciated the great efforts of all employees at the Sirte Oil and Gas Production and Manufacturing Company in order to continue the flow of fuel needed to generate electricity.”

On Sunday, the NOC announced that the facility will temporarily halt gas production at the Mellitah Industrial Complex due to planned refurbishment work.

The NOC declared that “all necessary arrangements have been taken to compensate for the shortage of gas” throughout the refurbishment, which will begin on 01 May.

According to a profile of Mellitah Oil and Gas Company by Italian company Eni, the state-owned oil company uses the Mellitah Industrial Complex to export a portion of the processed natural gas through an offshore pipeline of 32 inches/516 km, connecting the complex to the southern coast of Italy, and managed by the Green Stream.

This offshore export line is considered to be the first link between Libya and Europe, as per Eni’s profile.

Notably, the Former NOC head Mustafa Sanallah appointed a new board of directors for Brega Oil Marketing Company headed by Ibrahim Abu Breda, in 2020 and included Abdul Rahman Al-Obeidi, Moftah Al-Aqqa, Muhammad Abu Al-Hassan, and Faraj Ali as members.

Brega Oil Marketing Company was established in accordance with Law No. (74) of 1971 after the merging of three national companies, including (Brega, Sidra, and Al-Watania) into one company owned by the National Oil Corporation. The company is entrusted with the task of marketing, distribution, and transportation of Petroleum products and their complementary commodities inside Libya.
