Libyan Presidential Council Praises African Union’s Support

On Wednesday, the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Minfi received the President of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, who chairs the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Congo-Brazzaville, Jean-Claude Gakosso also participated in the meeting.

They discussed the latest developments in the national reconciliation project adopted by the Presidential Council, and the steps taken in preparation for the convening of the inclusive national conference for reconciliation. They also discussed proposals that guarantee the success of national reconciliation, through the participation of all actors.

Al-Mnifi praised the role played by President Nguesso and the African Union, in supporting reconciliation, peace, and stability across Libya.

At the end of May, Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry received the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Bankole Adeoye. They discussed the increasing security challenges in Africa.

The meeting discussed reforming the African Peace and Security Council, and the developments in the situation in Libya.

They touched on the Peace Fund of the African Union, which plays a role in preventing conflicts, building capacities and supporting peace in Africa.

Shoukry expressed Egypt’s “permanent welcome to dialogue with the African Union Commissioner on various issues related to Libya, and the peace and security in Africa.” He pointed to Egypt’s keenness to support the African Union.

In Febuary, Deputy Head for the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi said the reconciliation project aims to achieve stability development and prosperity in the country.

During his speech at the “Towards Building Peace” forum, in the city of Sorman, Al-Lafi announced the strategic reconciliation, and added that the project is being conducted with the cooperation of experts.
