A father and his daughter were injured after stray bullets struck their vehicle during an armed confrontation in the western Libyan city of Al Zawiya, highlighting growing concerns over civilian safety amid recurring security incidents.
According to local and medical sources, the incident took place on Friday evening near one of the city’s main entrances. Witnesses reported that two armored vehicles were involved in a high-speed pursuit through a busy public road, while individuals onboard exchanged gunfire in full view of passing motorists and pedestrians.
The victims were identified as members of a local family who happened to be driving through the area when the shooting erupted. Mohammed Abu Al-Qasim Al-Hamadi was reportedly traveling with relatives when bullets struck the vehicle. He sustained serious injuries and suffered significant blood loss before being transported to a hospital for emergency treatment.
Medical personnel confirmed that doctors successfully carried out an urgent surgical procedure to stabilize his condition. However, he is expected to undergo additional surgery to treat a gunshot wound to his shoulder. His daughter, who was also inside the vehicle, sustained injuries during the incident and received medical care.
The shooting has triggered widespread concern among residents, many of whom say such incidents have become an increasingly dangerous threat to civilians. Community members expressed frustration over the continued presence of armed groups operating in populated areas and the risks posed by gunfire in public spaces.
The incident has renewed calls for stronger law enforcement measures and greater accountability for those responsible for armed violence. Residents have urged authorities to take decisive action to prevent similar events and ensure that civilian lives are protected.
As of Saturday, no official statement had been issued by security authorities regarding the circumstances of the incident or the identities of those involved. The absence of an official response has fueled public concern and intensified demands for a thorough investigation.
