Libya Gains ECOSOC Membership for 2021-2023

On Wednesday, the Permanent Mission of Libya to the United Nations revealed that Libya was elected as a member of the UN Economic and Social Council for the period 2021-2023.

Libya’s membership obtained 182 votes out of 192. It is scheduled to begin early next year in January 2021.

The Economic and Social Council is the heart of the United Nations system. It was established in 1945, to achieve the UN’s three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental.

It is the main platform for encouraging debate, innovative ideas, coordination efforts. It is also responsible for monitoring progress on major UN conferences and summits.
