Italian Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini said that Italy was determined to ensure that the mandate of the European Union’s Operation ‘IRINI’ remained neutral and geographically balanced in regards to the ongoing conflict in Libya.

During his participation in a video meeting with NATO counterparts, Guerini stressed that ‘IRINI’ is committed to ensuring that all violations are reported immediately and publicly to the Security Council.

He also stressed the importance of the operation to bring the warring parties back to the negotiating table, “that is why we count on the cooperation of all NATO allies in implementing the mandate” he said.

Operation ‘IRINI’ is a naval operation launched by the European Union to monitor the UN arms embargo on Libya.
