Libyan File Tops French-German-British Meeting in Berlin

On Friday, the foreign ministers of Germany, France, and Britain met in Berlin to discuss the situation in Libya in light of Turkish interference, as well as issues of the African Sahel region.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian address several issues during the meeting, especially the Libyan file, the situation in the Sahel region, and the peace process in the Middle East.

He also discussed his country’s diplomatic relations with Turkey, the situation in the eastern Mediterranean, the Iranian file, as well as political relations between the European Union and China.

The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the French minister’s visit was at the invitation of his German counterpart Heiko Maas to discuss bilateral consultations between the two countries as well as to address the Iranian file with his British counterpart Dominique Rapp.

The French and British ministers’ visit to Berlin comes shortly before the start of the German presidency of the Council of Ministers of the European Union in the second half of 2020.

The French minister addressed with his German counterpart current major European and international issues and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

The two ministers also reviewed ways of cooperation regarding the United Nations, as next July, Germany will assume the presidency of the Security Council.

The two ministers will review their joint work in favour of strengthening the multilateral system and global health planning.
