Libya Donates 950 Tons of Aid to Gaza

Libya has contributed over 950 tons of food, medical supplies, and medicine to Gaza, according to the Egyptian Red Crescent.

This marks the second-largest quantity of aid for Gaza, following Egypt’s contribution of 900 tons, as reported by the Egyptian Red Crescent.

Humanitarian and relief aid for Gaza has been received by the Egyptian Red Crescent from 27 countries, including Libya.

Following Egypt and Libya, Kuwait ranks third with around 500 tons of aid, followed by Qatar with nearly 350 tons, and Turkey with approximately 205 tons.

Libya’s Prime Minister, Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba announced a substantial $50 million aid package for the Palestinian people.

This pledge came to light during the ninth regular Council session of 2023, highlighting Libya’s resolute stance with Palestine amid ongoing regional turmoil.

Addressing the attendees, Dbiaba reiterated Libya’s solidarity with Palestinians, especially in the besieged Gaza Strip, condemning the attacks on civilians and infrastructures. He characterized the offensive as ‘genocidal’ and called for international intervention to halt what he described as, “blatant human rights violations.”

Notably, the Libyan Parliament has urged the eastern-based government to cease exporting oil and gas to countries supporting the Israeli occupation, amid ongoing aggression in Gaza.

In an official statement released last month, the Parliament firmly expressed its rejection of Palestinian displacement, emphasizing the imperative need for an immediate halt to the aggression, which it referred to as a “genocidal campaign by Zionist gangs.”

The statement further called for an urgent meeting at the leadership level within the Arab League and Islamic organizations. It urged convening an emergency session at the United Nations General Assembly.
