On Monday, Libyan Minister of State for Illegal Immigration Affairs, Fathi Moussa Al-Tabawi, met with a delegation from the Tuareg tribes, municipal officials, and directors of key security departments.

Discussions focused on engaging international organizations in Libya’s border regions and addressing challenges like illegal migration, human trafficking, and drug trafficking. Efforts to enhance operational capabilities of southern border checkpoints were emphasized.

The Tuareg Elders’ Council delegation praised the Libyan Government’s dedication to southern region development and the Libyan National Army (LNA)’s actions against transcontinental organized crime.

The Tuareg people, with their nomadic heritage, play a vital role in the socio-political landscape of Libya and neighboring Sahara-spanning nations.

Libya has faced political instability and challenges in managing migration and securing its borders. Southern regions have been hotspots for illicit trafficking networks.

In response, the Libyan eastern-based Government and the LNA have initiated projects to stabilize and revitalize the south, including infrastructure development, economic investment, and security measures. These initiatives aim to foster international cooperation in addressing migration and cross-border crime.
