Libyan Education Minister Moussa Al-Megarief discussed enhancing English language teaching in Libya with Mark Knight, Director of Examinations Operations at the British Council.
The discussion also revolved around the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement between the ministry and Cambridge, laying out a framework.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed the training of English language teachers, with involvement from the General Centre for Training and Education Development and its offices across the country.
Also present at the meeting were Ministerial Advisor Abdelsalam Asghar, Ministry Advisor for Information Technology Affairs Ahmed Al-Mejbbar, and Faisal Al-Najeh, Director of the British Council in Libya.
Notably, the U.S. Embassy in Libya, led by Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt announced it is excited to strengthen its collaborative efforts with Amideast, aiming to broaden English language education throughout the country. This initiative comes as part of a broader commitment to educational and professional development in the region.
During a recent meeting with Amideast President and CEO, Ambassador Greta C. Holtz, and her team, Berndt expressed enthusiasm about the ongoing partnership between the two organisations. “We are pleased to host Ambassador Holtz and her team to discuss our partnership and joint efforts to expand English language education across Libya,” Berndt stated.
The collaboration has already seen significant achievements, including professional training for Libyan teachers and opportunities for Libyan youth and professionals to participate in U.S.-funded educational exchange programs. These programs allow participants to travel and study in the United States, gaining invaluable international experience and skills.
Looking ahead, the U.S. Embassy and Amideast are committed to increasing participation in these exchange and professional development opportunities. “We look forward to broadening participation in these exchange and professional opportunities in the years to come,” Berndt added.
This ongoing partnership is a testament to the shared goals of the U.S. Embassy and Amideast to foster educational growth and professional opportunities in Libya, contributing to the country’s long-term development and international relations.
