Libya’s NOC Announces Successful Rehabilitation of 2 Oil Wells

On Thursday, Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced a major breakthrough in increasing oil and gas output by successfully rehabilitating two key wells in the Abu Attifel field. This strategic move has led to a substantial increase in production, now yielding 3,333 barrels of oil and 9 million cubic feet of gas daily.

The operations were carried out by Mellitah Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of NOC, which implemented non-drilling interventions at wells A-16 and A-71.

The team employed advanced non-drilling techniques, which included the removal of calcareous build-up and the addition of new perforations to enhance the wells’ productive capacity. These technical improvements have revitalized the wells, significantly boosting their output and efficiency.

The announcement follows NOC’s continued success in revitalizing its oil production facilities, which includes the recent reactivation of well A-75 in the Abu Attifel field, now producing 4,000 barrels per day.

Additionally, well C309-65 in the Sarir field has returned to service, delivering 1,134 barrels daily after a 17-year hiatus. These efforts are crucial for stabilizing and expanding Libya’s oil output, which has faced numerous challenges due to the country’s political instability and infrastructural issues.

Since the 2011 uprising that led to significant disruptions in Libya’s oil sector, NOC has been pivotal in efforts to recover and expand the nation’s oil production capabilities. The sector’s revival is seen as essential for funding Libya’s reconstruction and economic recovery, making the NOC’s role critically important for the nation’s future.

By continuing to deploy innovative technologies and strategic development plans, NOC is not only looking to enhance current production levels but also to ensure the sustainability and resilience of Libya’s oil sector. These initiatives are part of a broader national effort to leverage Libya’s rich natural resources to rebuild and strengthen the economy, providing a more stable and prosperous future for all Libyans.
