Abubakr Ibrahim Altaweel, the Acting Ambassador of Libya to Morocco, emphasized Morocco’s crucial role in fostering Maghreb integration. In a recent press statement, Altaweel highlighted the visit of Sami Al-Mnifi, an envoy of the Libyan Presidential Council’s head, to Nouakchott last Tuesday as part of efforts to strengthen the Arab Maghreb Union to fulfill the regional aspirations for more stability and prosperity.
The visit was marked by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita’s reception of Al-Manfi in Rabat, who brought a written message from the Libyan Presidential Council’s head to King Mohammed VI of Morocco.
Observers note that the visits of Sami Al-Mnifi, as well as Imad Al-Fallah, another envoy of the Libyan Presidential Council’s head Mohamed Al-Mnifi to Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, demonstrate Libya’s independent stance from Algerian perspectives on the Arab Maghreb Union.
The diplomatic moves underline Libya’s commitment to enhancing regional unity and highlight the ongoing dialogue aimed at advancing stability and economic growth across the Maghreb region.
Earlier this month, a joint declaration by Morocco and Belgium regarding the ongoing crisis in Libya was highlighted in a news report published by the Ghanaian English-language news site “My Joy Online.”
The report conveyed the renewal of both countries’ strong commitment to Libya’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and national unity. This reaffirmation came during the Moroccan-Belgian Partnership Committee meeting, chaired by the Prime Ministers of both nations, Aziz Akhannouch and Alexander De Croo.
According to the report, both sides emphasized the central role of the United Nations in facilitating a comprehensive political process led by Libyans, aimed at organizing presidential and legislative elections in Libya.
Furthermore, Belgium welcomed Morocco’s efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis by hosting meetings of the Joint 12 Committee between the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State.
