The European Union Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM) has released a report highlighting the outcomes of its recent meeting with Libyan authorities aimed at strengthening the country’s border security.

EUBAM’s report, as monitored by “Akhbar Libya 24,” underscores the increasing collaboration between the mission and Libyan law enforcement agencies, focusing particularly on enhancing land border management. The inaugural meeting of the relevant sub-group was attended by representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, and Defense of the outgoing Government of National Unity (GNU).

According to the report, the Libyan Customs Authority and the EU mission’s operations team participated in the meeting, where the sub-group was established based on recommendations from a joint committee comprising both European and Libyan sides. The discussion centered on several key initiatives, including the development of specific projects to enhance the management of the Libyan-Tunisian land border. These projects include the provision of necessary infrastructure and equipment for effective border surveillance.

The report also highlighted ongoing training efforts for Libyan law enforcement agencies. These training programs cover critical areas such as anti-smuggling operations, search techniques, heritage preservation, international humanitarian law, border security, and risk management.

EUBAM reaffirmed its commitment to continued cooperation with Libyan authorities, aiming to achieve effective and tangible changes that contribute to the country’s security and stability.

This announcement marks a significant step forward in addressing border security challenges in Libya, reflecting the shared commitment of both European and Libyan stakeholders to ensure a secure and stable region.
