Libyan criminal investigation authorities have uncovered the remains of a man who had been missing since 2017, after a renewed inquiry led investigators to an abandoned family farm in the Batta area of Al-Sahel Municipality.
The Criminal Investigation Department in Al-Sahel, affiliated with the Al-Marj branch, said its investigation teams had managed to unravel the details of the case involving the disappearance of a 30-year-old man several years ago.
According to the department, information received by investigators led them to search an old abandoned farm belonging to the family, located inside a forested area. During the search, investigators found human remains buried at the site.
Following the discovery, the department formed a confidential operations room to pursue the investigation. Authorities questioned the missing man’s brother, who reportedly admitted that his sisters were involved in the crime.
Investigators said one of the suspects later gave details of the killing during questioning. According to the reported confession, the victim was struck on the head with a glass ashtray, followed by another blow with a hammer. His body was then wrapped in a blanket, burned, and buried in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The Public Prosecution has ordered the arrest and summons of the accused women and referred the case for forensic examination. It also extended their detention pending further investigations.
Authorities said the case remains under investigation as prosecutors continue legal procedures to establish the full facts and ensure justice, despite reported attempts by the perpetrators to hide evidence.
